It's easy to ignore the "royal" part and focus on the "family," there. That might be my own affection for Thor and his supporting cast in general, and the charisma of the actual performers in the films, though.

I would disagree that it's more dramatic - the real world is full of terrifying drama, for instance - but I know its just kind of short hand, and plays off of myths and fairytales and stuff.
