I wouldn't have minded so much if the conditions that prompted it weren't so monumentally and shallowly contrived.

So did they invite Lara to witness the sentencing out of spite? "Hey, guess whose advice we're going to blatantly reject in favor of our arbitrary, costly tradition? Your murdered husband's!"

@avclub-4abf5e04b1dc5a9138289c1f400a1613:disqus You make a good point about the appeal of a protagonist growing and developing his moral code, but one of the key elements of Superman as an icon is that his values were largely instilled in him by the guidance of his Earthly parents. Seeing those values later challenged

I think the world engine is enough of a staple scifi trope that it didn't too closely evoke any specific other movie, but yes to all the other stuff. I used to consider him quite the auteur, but Snyder's style was all over the place in this movie.

"Joss-Whedony-but-not-smart"

I wish I could agree with you. I did enjoy a lot of parts, but the exposition was so muddled, the flow of scenes so jarring, the mythos so overbearing, the action so blithely dismissive of collateral damage, the dramatic beats so unevenly executed, and the characters besides Lois so thinly expressed, that I had real

Yeah, but Lara was right there with them when they were sentencing Zod & co. You'd think, even if she has insufficient clout to convince them of the need for a complete evacuation (which Jor-El dismissed as unfeasible anyway), she might be able to get them to sentence treasonous rebels to a prison on the planet. She

One of the interesting and clever grace notes of this film was showing how, when Zod first gains his Earth powers, it's actually a hindrance to him in fighting Superman, because his heightened senses are so disorienting and unfamiliar. But, considering that he masters them in time for his next fight, your point

Your example of Amazing Spider-Man is perfect because not only is the change pointless, it actively makes that scene, story arc, and theme significantly weaker. God I hate that movie. Just thinking about it makes me more charitable toward Man of Steel.

@avclub-b9a25e422ba96f7572089a00b838c3f8:disqus I think Adams' acting, and the context you reference, made it sufficiently clear that she knew who he was. But she did seem surprised to find him joining her staff, which would contradict the plot-hole-filler of her having gotten him the job.

Baptism?

The plot holes in DKR didn't bother me much at all, and I didn't care for Man of Steel. So good call, I guess.

@avclub-b7ee6f5f9aa5cd17ca1aea43ce848496:disqus Aside from the variable rex paddock geography, what's so plot holey about Jurassic Park?

AAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Oh great, another uncle to compete with.

I DON'T WANT NO PART OF YOUR TIGHT-ASS WEB SERIES, YA FREAK BITCH!

@avclub-d5fed60ca5b77126ceab9061b1517211:disqus I love that Terry Crews reminds her of Tobias.

Sir Gay! Sir Gay, he bleeding!

I thought everyone hated Ember Island Players?

So it's The Hunger Games?
