Unreal 4 uses a physically based shader... Unreal 3 doesn't. Which means everything will look "wrong" because they weren't authored to be used in the way Unreal 4' needs.

For reference, the original Bioshock was made using Unreal Engine 2. A heavily modified version, certainly, but still. People saying it looks "pretty much the same" have absolutely no eye for detail.
