It's because she wasn't acting on Gilmore Girls. She was reciting lines. Rory is only a slightly altered version of Alexis. This means everything after is awkward because it leaves you wondering why Rory Gilmore decided to try Hollywood out… she's supposed to be on some campaign trail somewhere!
