Presumably, part of the reason she’s doing it (and the reason anybody who reveal that their partner cheated on them) is as part of an attempt to publicly shame them. You humiliated and hurt me to such a degree that I now feel compelled to do the same to you in the most effective means at my disposal.

I think she’s definitely seeking revenge by making the post. I personally like to keep my private life private, but I can certainly understand her motivation.

It’s possible he never really got a long with his family and used it as some sort of rebellion. Probably found like minded individuals who reinforced his bad behavior.

The same way that so many reasonable, empathetic liberals come from bigoted conservative families, probably. They found an ideological system that resonated with them and rejected their family’s input.

I know some people who are acquainted with this family, and apparently they’re all a bunch of liberals except for this lunatic, who’s been threatening toward them in the past. I knew someone who was living with her partner 20 years, kids, etc. He had a massive heart attack and died and surprise! Without legal marriage she couldn’t get social security survivor benefits, she was unable to work for various reasons, and she and her youngest (a teen) ended up in a homeless shelter. Marriage…

Listen the legal protection alone is something you guys need to discuss no matter what you decide. If one of you gets sick, if you aren’t married then you may have limited access to them or their finances. If you have children and one of you dies and the house isn’t in your name, their could be legal repercussions etc…
