I get approached at gas stations too, you know.

"Excuse me sir, I can't help but notice you drive an old german sedan. Would you like me to call a tow truck for you? Oh- you're just getting gas? You mean it actually runs?"

being a father of two stepdaughters myself, I can say I regret none of the sacrifices that I have made and there is nothing I wouldn't give up for my daughters. but you are definitely something special, your parents did a great job raising you...and that has nothing to do with the car.

I identify with this guy completely. *finally gets Porsche* *plays with headlights* *maniacal giggling*

I think you mean, "Maybe Won".

Agreed. My first car was a baja. Got it before I could drive legally.

Is it that hard to believe a 16 year old would love an air cooled VW? I know I did.

I was thinking the same thing, there are tasteful enhancements and those aren't one of them.

After hitting an Elk crushed his Saab, one Canadian was faced with a choice — take a hopelessly long Greyhound bus ride home, or buy a $500 Audi and drive there. He made the right decision.

"So it seems you sold my friend a non-US spec car. Would you happen to have any OIL for that car?

Mercedes Benz the reason we can't have nice things.

I imagine the German authorities would frown on that. Then their commanding officers would be told and those commanding officers would frown even more. In the end they would be in deep doodoo and he would still be stuck with this problem.

I think there is an obvious solution, have your buddies borrow an M1 Abrams and drive it through the dealership, and hopefully over the manager. Then collect whatever cash there is and use that to import the car to South America ... or you can sue in Germany. Even German law frowns on outright fraud like this.

Because! Just think of all the children and baby animals that would surely die a horrible fiery death if he was to let this illegal monstrosity on the road! /government

I guess he should have sent his American soldier friends, suitably equipped, to 'discuss the matter' with the dealership.

25 year import law: the reason why we can't have nice things.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. A Microbus TDI would be a segment-buster and could be just as popular as the New Beetle when it first came out. I'd guess the diesel hybrid might be a bit too pricy for the segment though.

This looks so similar to something like a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Ford Flex that you've got to wonder who will buy these things.

I agree with Mr Torchinsky.. VW minivan could work on the same nostalgia line like the new MINI did

I said this to myself last night after reading about the SUV. Any VW fan is going to think this...except of course the VW fans who work for the company. Seems as though VW has gone back to thinking the customer doesn't know what they want, but VW management does. How's that cheap-o Jetta working out for ya guys?

Yes. This. 1,000 times this. Why has Volkswagen gone so far out of its way to be boring lately? Like the world really needs another huge, ugly, lame SUV. A simple, lightweight, box-on-wheels microbus would sell in droves. And that's what VW's all about these days- selling as many vehicles as possible and making all of
