I considered an Odyssey, but where I live they practically appreciate in value. The local dealers make it almost impossible to get an entry level model (3-6 month wait), but they can get you into one with 17K in accessories right away.
This is exactly why we tolerated the other deficiencies in the various minivans we owned. That said, I would love it if one of the manufacturers could come out with one with a transmission that doesn’t grenade on you.
After years of of second hand minivans with transmissions failing left right and center, we went for a Volvo XC90 this time and are so much happier. That said, we’re now well past the point of having to be able to belt everyone in ourselves.
If they care about safety the Caravan shouldn’t be on the list.
I have to say that the seats in the Metris felt a little too much like an airport van than passenger vehicle to me. Maybe Mercedes has fixed this since I looked at one, but I would hate to do a long trip on those unforgiving seats.
My kids (who are big TG fans) asked me to turn it off half way through. They were creeped out by Bill.
I have your back on this. I was really disappointed by it. I expected more with the new found freedom, but it never really hit its stride and some of the schtick was really tired by the final episode.
They should propose to build it along the US/Mexico border.
That was what stopped us from going with an SUV. When all 4 were in car seats, the only option was a minivan. That said, we’re loving the Volvo XC90 now that 2 are out of boosters.
I don’t know what Mazda was thinking when they dropped the MPV. It was a great van at an excellent price point.
I tried to buy a base model Oddy and none of the dealerships on the island I live on had one available. The standard line I got was that I could get one if I was willing to wait X months, and it was a wait too long as our current van was getting ready to grenade. They could get me into one immediately with 10+K in…
We considered a Flex, but my wife’s grandfather was an engineer at Ford, and for some reason she won’t buy anything made by them.
When I saw the Mazda5 option I cringed. As a father of 4, I had this same dilemma recently. We ended up going Volvo XC90, but only because our kids our out of car seats. If we were still all in car seats, we’d be in a minivan. We owned a series of Mazda MPVs as they checked the safety and reliability boxes. The…
There is a dealership here on Vancouver Island, British Columbia that gets cars from the different flood zone states. They must be going cheap to be still profitable to sell this far away, with the cost of registering the vehicle in Canada.
Check the seat belts for mildew stains. I have seen this on a number of cars that were for sale at a local dealership that brings in cars from Texas, Florida and Louisiana.
Yes, we have a dealership here on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada which is full of Texas cars. I am guessing that these are flood damaged salvages (tip off would have been the one I looked at which had bad mildew stains on every seat belt).
This is the best comment on here of the day!!! I would love to see an article about piecing a bunch of flood damaged cars into something reasonable.
This makes me think of the Mazda van I bought last year, which despite a clean ‘report’, reeks of rotting mushrooms when it gets hot inside. I didn’t know about the fake CarFax reports before I bought it, and have learned too much about them since.
You only need to look at architecture that is hundreds of years old in Europe versus stuff that was built just to get it up quickly and cheaply to see which option is best.
