First, thank you for all the amazing writing, Matt. This place is one of the most insightful and pleasant/positive places I come to online and you will be missed. Without your support, we would never have been here.
Secondly, I hope your funemployment is brief and the transition into a new, hopefully great job is

Sad to see you go Matt and here’s hoping everything turns up roses from here on out. I know the seas have been choppy with the AV Club for awhile, so here’s hoping for a happy ending.

Yeah, F the White Palace.  I did it. I beat it. It was a white-knuckle experience in masochistic determination, but I actually beat it. You see, I have problems with heights in real life, and it translates to video games. As a kid, I was terrified of mountain driving, because deep in my belly it FELT like the car was

I often bristle

Salutations~!

As I recall, all of the New Vegas DLCs, and particularly the last piece, have a problem with bullet sponges. Two of the four also have pretty dire stories, which is a shame. Old World Blues is the best of the lot.

More Fallout: New Vegas DLC this week as I dived into Old World Blues. I mistakenly thought it was the second one released, when that was in fact Honest Hearts, but it makes a lot of sense to play through it immediately after Dead Money because of all of the story connections between the two.

I forgot about Sonic Mania on Switch because I previously didn’t have a Switch, but that needs to go on the wish list, though it sounds as if I can wait on the Encore Mode.

Hollow Knight is awesome, and a week or two after beating it I’m still jonesing for something as substantial and gripping to fill the void.

Salutations~!

It’s finally time for me to get started on Octopath Traveler, which is arriving on Friday at my home. I’ve already played through the demo and am ready to jump right in!

We’ve had solid turnout the last two months so Mario Kart 8 and the 8th is continuing on Sunday at 8PM Central.

This week I’m playing…

I'm right there with you, man. Hollow Knight left me a little cold at the start, but I've fallen head over heels for it now. It has the environmental design and tone of Dark Souls or Metroid combined with the inherent pleasantness and accessibility of a 16-bit platformer. All wrapped up in a gorgeous presentation that

My one complaint about Hollow Knight is that the true final boss is goddamn ridiculous. I’ve beaten just about every other boss in the game, including Nightmare King Grimm, but the true ending eludes me.

I’d be watching if I’d actually played Andromeda. I didn’t have time for it last year, and I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. The negative buzz around it kind of killed my enthusiasm for playing it, though.

You know how there are good bad games? Games that are objectively riddled with issues but are still fun to play? I often tell people that Alpha Protocol is the best bad game I’ve played. It’s full of jank, and a lot of it is pure nonsense, but it’s a blast to play.

The Steam Sale is over and I spent a grand total of ... $13. On Gang Beasts. Because why the hell not? It feels like a game of random chance to break out once in awhile at the same time you go with Ultimate Chicken Horse. When there’s only three people, it can be limiting in terms of modes, but it’s still a fun, brisk

Now playing

I just finished up my third Red Dead Redemption playthrough. According to the trophies, I started this playthrough over 4 years ago, as I apparently tackled an Act every two years. And I’m sad to say that while only playing the main missions it’s clear that the game is looking rather old and tired, and not in a
