IIRC, there was a coding error during the programming of the game that initially caused the aberration. The developers liked it so much that they kept it in.

I’ve been playing the game single player. There have definitely been a few points when having other players would have made things easier (Hinox Mines), but overall I’ve been enjoying it. It’s putting my coordination and timing to quite the test.
