Good article, Marvel Mystery Comics ended in 1949, actually not 1942. I believe it lasted 92 issues (which makes sense as it premiered in 1939) before being retitled ‘Marvel Tales’, a Horror Anthology.

I did not claim it has the same premise whatsoever. My entire thing is that the look of Moon Girl is completely ripped off of the title character of that comic. Play Devil’s advocate all you want- are you saying it isn’t a very close approximation of the FLAG character?
My apologies, after a cursory google search it seems this didn’t go completely unnoticed, but I do feel it’s worth investigating further:
I would love it if someone would cover that there was a comic book called “Fight Like A Girl” that Marvel ripped off 100% wholesale for this and yet no one reports on it or speaks on it. Seriously- anyone google Fight Like A Girl #1 by Action Lab and tell me yourself. They didn’t even alter the appearance of Moon…
To be fair, it’s arguable that Lucas had “one” good idea and more synthesized a lot of influences. Ask anyone on the street what they think about a character called Mark Moonrider, people who tap into a power called “The Source”, characters who use light swords, who use boom tubes to teleport across space, and a…
Mr. H! A minor quibble Sir but please don’t equate Rockabilly with the white whityness whiteypants of Taylor Swift. Rockabilly came from Chuck Berry, Arthur Crudup, etc. Taylor Swift came from damn Air Supply
A gang truce terrifies the police and the government. The worst thing that can happen for them is Chicago getting organized.
This article implies that Johnson is somehow obligated to make something deep and artistic for the approval and respect of pop culture enthusiasts. His immediate goal is to keep profiting on a formula and while none of his output appeals to me, he shouldn’t be held to any pretentious standard when he’s clearly doing…
Keep in mind her father thought “busing” meant taking a school bus. Granted, a percentage of Americans might misrepresent that also, especially white ones, but you’d expect more from a very stable genius who happens to be, you know, the President. This is an entire family of nitwits with no capacity for empathy or…
For ONCE, Marvel put out a poster where the character has their mask on. I applaud it. We know Tom Holland is in it. It was refreshing to finally see a MCU Poster without the actor reminding us they’re playing the source character. Agreed about the Trapper Keeper motif but it’s a refreshing change from dour and gritty…
I’m white and am increasingly more and more disgusted by these useless entitled fucking crackers. They’ve never been more emboldened and need to be put back in their place. Hell can’t come soon enough for racists.
I agree and have thought this often. They put a Bill Bixby cameo in Norton’s Hulk film. There exists plenty of film of Jack Kirby. They couldn’t put him on a screen in a bar or something for three seconds?
You’ve got to remember that they purposely dilute Kirby or any mention of him because they had Stan coached at…
Why? Stan Lee didn’t create the Grandmaster. In fact, Kirby pitched the first Thor story and Stan didn’t even write it- Larry Lieber did. Stan just put in the plot element of the Stone Men from Saturn. The concept of a guy finding the hammer and becoming Thor had been done by Jack Kirby a decade earlier in a DC story.…
I read that Simon and Kirby were more concerned with the fact that publisher Martin Goodman gave away the rights to make the serial for free. Back then, the guys in comics weren’t ‘fans’ of comics like today’s professionals- they were trying to get paid!
Yeah, I think it’s possible to keep pointing this out without being disrespectful- but *they* keep being massively disrespectful to Kirby, whether it’s Feige or it’s the Russos or it’s the author of this article. Kirby created more than Stan did, it’s simply the facts, and doesn’t take away from Stan’s contributions…
“His characters” :D
We need new laws, plain and simple- that make it a crime of staggering proportions to either call the police on people for being black, or trying to arrest black people under these pitiful circumstances. There needs to be something to make these emboldened racist motherfuckers at least momentarily pause- they ain’t…
