While this is a shady and potentially dangerous way to get your money back, I don't understand why everyone is so reluctant to piss off a "friend" that has such little respect for you or your situation that they won't pay you back your money.

The reason dollar cost averaging was created as a strategy is for people who have money to invest every month/paycheck. If you have an amount budgeted to invest each month, invest it whether the market is going up or down. The best example of this is your 401k.

You seem to be assuming that because you spend money you don't save. We put away money every month while spending money on, as Topaz said, fueling up, groceries, etc. This is a way to put away just a little bit more without thinking about it. I do this through my bank already (it just throws it in a savings account)

This might work for curbing or limiting bad habits as well, as food journaling seems to work for dieters.

Consider reasonably priced prostitutes. While the upfront cost can be daunting, the lack of recurring cost really save you in the long run.
