How about "12 Years a Slave Defies Gravity to Nab Best Picture"? Then you have a "Wicked" and an "Adele Nazeem" joke for those in the know as well!

So is "escaping slavery". While escaping gravity is certainly an established scientific concept, escaping slavery is an established historical one, one that even yields almost 2 million Google results. Seeing a racial angle in this headline isn't as far-fetched as you seem to believe.
Enjoy:
Trust me, whomever he is, he can't hold an brow brush to the great Damone Roberts.
I know this is probably giving the headline writer too much credit, but I suspect they felt some self-satisfaction at their double pun. It doesn't have to be one or the other, unless you think more people will get physics references than slavery references. I'm not personally confident about either.
"I’ve always had a little thing for black guys. I really don’t know what it is, but I think it runs in my family. My dad likes black women. I inherited the gene."
You really should write that book. This 42-year old would read it and love it!!
Tie both of yours together with: Benedict tearing up during Lupita's acceptance speech. Night made.
Yes he did, and he certainly made more films than Cory Monteith. But once again, primarily a TV presence. People who have been around for more than a minute know that.
So were Marcia Williams and James Avery. You didn't see them in the In Memoriam either, did you? This is a foolish tempest in a teapot stirred up every year by people who like to act like they are new. The Oscar segment has always honored artists and craftspeople who are primarily known for their contributions to…
Well, I'm a black woman too, so now that we've established that...I'm not sure how Halle Berry fitting a stereotypical mold of Eurocentric beauty standards in Hollywood makes her not "exceptionally beautiful" though. Lupita looks nothing like Halle and that is refreshing. Halle's type of beauty has been celebrated…
I lot of people do think she was amazing in 12 Years, and not patronizingly so because she's black, but because she gave an extraordinary and deeply felt performance. She is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, one of the most prestigious acting training programs in the world, and one that does not traditionally…
I don't think there is anything cookie-cutter about Halle Berry. I think she is stunning, and aging incredibly. The difference between her and Angela Bassett is that while Bassett is also stunning and aging incredibly, she is also a gifted actress whose skill continues to grow as well. Berry is adequate, has at…
And your belief was accurate and correct.
I've actually been a fan of hers since she was on the first season of A Different World. To see where her career has gone has been very cool.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and Matthew was great and I will be pleased if he wins. But I think his work in Mud and even on True Detective is stronger. He'll be rewarded for his collective work and his artistic resurgence since The Lincoln Lawyer, which is fine. But Chiwetel' s performance is very…
Thank you. Marisa Tomei never became a huge star, but she has stayed a consistently employed, respected actress, and has been TWICE nominated for an Oscar since her win (In the Bedroom and The Wrestler). A pretty enviable career, I would say.
Erin has done a great disservice with this poorly written and vetted article. Read about the actual court cases. No SRA, no occult trappings or paraphernalia, no "cult"; just two guys accused of molesting their own children and one other. The pastor's alleged victims, his own sons, recanted during the trial of the…
Not so fast. I'm skeptical, especially of the way this case was originally spun in the media versus the actual settled charges and convictions obtained. This whole thing started with a confession by a clearly mentally unstable man; two of the alleged victims, the pastor's own sons, recanted in 2008. While that in…
I'm just going to post this again, since you evidently missed it: When I work long hours all week, then have reggae and hip hop blasting all night Friday and Saturday and then the church invades my apartment all day Sunday, am I really supposed to accept that because I'm not rich I'm not entitled to any rest or quiet…
