They are pretty much the En-bloc clip from an M1 garand. Definately not a magazine, needs a spring to be a mag.

wrong, those are actually clips. Mags hold rounds under spring pressure in prep for feeding into the chamber. A clip does not use springs and holds the rounds in the correct sequence for firing.
