The problem is that examining each case individually requires nuance, and people who view the world as a purity test reject nuance.

He is denying her accusations. Both of them are calling each other liars. How else do you deny an accusation against you? Your accuser is either mistaken or lying. You and Goldberg essentially have similar positions. Credible but impossible to determine truthfulness at this point.
