Meh, I never got too hung up on effects. It worked fine for me.

Every season of TNG had its stinkers, it really is just the ratio, and HOW good the good ones were.

I also think "The Neutral Zone" is alright. Slow, but the story is decent, and notable for the first time we see the Romulans in TNG. My favorite guilty pleasure episode of TNG is "Conspiracy" from S1. It's so…bizarre, and unlike anything else the show would ever do again. It's also a diamond atop the relative dungheap that is that season.

This is very true.

"Yesterday's Enterprise" is the finest hour of Trek ever produced. EVER. It's kind of hard to get the full appeal of it if you didn't suffer through the shittastic Season 1, though. That episode was practically an apology for that whole season.
