This is a good take. The CPO prices on 2-3 year old Mercedes E class and BMW 5 series are surprisingly good.

Indeed. I got a 2022 4S Cross Turismo with less than 8K miles on the Odo (it was actually less than 10 months old when I got it in December according to all the paperwork) for $90K. The only option it doesn’t have (other than custom stitching) is the fancy Tony Stark roof glass. It’s stupidly fully loaded. MSRP $184K.
Can we also re-mention how stupid it is to call an EV a “Turbo” model?
I think the 911's limited production and ‘lineage’ make it an almost certain future classic. Taycan, Panamera, Cayenne etc are really nice, really expensive, but they’re not going to be future classics, not to the degree that a 911 would. They’re probably great, just not legendary great. People tend to keep/collect…
A 4+ years old first generation luxury EV lost 50% of their valuation from new?
I’m biased because I have a 968, but it would be amazing to see a modern take on the Porsche 944. With the next Boxster/Cayman going full electric, I often daydream about a new entry-level ICE Porsche sports car.
Agreed. This is all just change for change’s sake, doesn’t improve or fix anything that was wrong with the original.
Minor model changes are always tough and Porsche, especially, seems to struggle extra with them. I do like the new standard nose way better than the turbo.
I’m with you.
Counterpoint: the older one looks better. It has curvier styling that flows better.
Porsche has done the same thing every automaker does during a refresh. “Let’s tighen up those curves! Add some creases! Make it look SHARPER!”
NO. The whole point of the original design was to be curvy and elegant, and it worked, all…
The Porsche MO. Under promise, over deliver. Other’s should follow suit.
I think 300 is just the magic number of range for the public. Just like getting in the lower 30s MPGs can sound much better than upper 20s.
Is this from 2019? Also, wait until you hear about the SUVs they’re going to make.
Who cares about the purists. True Porsche enthusiasts are Taycan lovers
Sure, autonomous vehicles should be regulated. Yes, the technology isn’t there yet, and it’s foolish to think that the tech/vehicle companies actually care about the consequences of real-world testing, save for potential liability exposures.
Diesel was hugely successful in the UK and mainland Europe, much to the detriment of air quality and the respiratory systems of these populations. It was easy to make it popular, since incentives on fuel duty (and particularly in the UK, preferential taxation of company cars) could be deployed without requiring tons…
BMW went off the deep end 10 years ago. I stopped liking them at the turn of the century, but they really doubled down in the last decade.
I think Mercedes went for range at all costs, so the EQS design prioritized aerodynamics over everything else. The amorphous blob is unfortunately the best choice if you want a slippery shape. It’s a really silly approach, since the luxury category is not where range matters most of all. Porsche has done just fine…
Yep; I’m so glad to hear their current lineup is shitting the bed sales wise. They need to take their design head out back and shoot them. They’ve absolutely destroyed the desirability of the entire brand.
The BMW iX isn’t selling because it’s absolutely heinous to look at. It’s no surprise that people in the market for a $90k EV would prefer it didn’t resemble a naked mole rat or Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus.
