Yes think of how good ICE cars have been geting. the quality of a 2035 ICE car will probably make 350000 miles on the engine. With telecommuting and delivery everything we will soon need our cars less and less and they can become more of a hobby.

1st: This is Jalopnik, no one here buys new cars.
While I generally find the “all gentrification is evil” narrative pretty limited, to me this is just called: Do Your Research. Figure out what happens in a neighborhood, decide whether or not you’d be happy to live there, and then sign your lease accordingly. Don’t show up and mess with the lives of the people who…
Take the $85k into context with the rest of the BMW lineup. The iX is roughly the same size as the X5 and X6, which start around $59k and $65k respectively. That puts the $85k starting point 40-45% higher than the ICE counterparts of the iX.
except for the bucktooth dash.
Everyone on this site: “I want a fast, stylish-but-not-overstyled, 300-400hp car with RWD, a manual transmission, and relatively analog underpinnings. I also want it for cheap.”
Yes, let’s discuss how we’re killing the planet.
Until someone can come up with a study that shows how my F-150 is hurting the planet more than battery production and disposal, I’m calling bullshit.
California said in September that it would be banning the sale of new cars that aren’t zero emission by 2035, which it should probably just do right now instead of waiting. Anyway, there are now calls for the U.S. as a whole to do pretty much the same thing.
Getting a little tired of hearing “by 2025, by 2035, by 2080" when it comes to everything being EV. Let’s see some concrete plans to do that, such as:
California didn’t say it - Newsom said it. And it could just as easily be “unsaid” by the next governor after he’s recalled. That said, the political appetite in CA might see that order stay in place until it’s enacted.
There will be ways around the ICE ban. There are gonna be tons of certified pre-owned cars and trucks with like 5 miles on them.
I 100% agree with you. It’s all about the shitter. Otherwise, it’s no different than a tent or an air mattress in the back of a van or SUV...both of which are a hell of a lot cheaper than $13k.
It doesn’t come with a shitter. The whole point of a camper is that I don’t want to use some horrible public park toilet, or risk winding up on the sex offender registry if a bunch of Girl Scouts walk into the woods while I’m contributing to nature. I’d rather buy a cheap minivan and use it to tow a rented pop-up. No…
Counterpoint: The new 308 is ugly and unnecessarily aggressive - and we only find it interesting because we can’t get it stateside. There hasn’t been a chic, interesting, truly decent French car since the 1980's.
Yup. The i3 is polarizing, for sure, but it’s a cohesive design with a purpose.
If an i3 owner thinks this is bad that really puts this monstrosity into perspective.
With new Jalopnik we now have:
Uhm... WTF?! This monstrosity was already released onto the unsuspecting and undeserving public a while ago?! Torch (IIRC) already torched the horrible design and BMW already tried to justify themselves why this fugly blob (and all other new Bucktooth Beaver Bimmers) are so fucking fugly.
If the 3 series were to leave North America, I think that would be death for the BMW brand in North America. While people right now are buying BMW premium/luxury sporty SUV/CUVs, I can’t see them keep continuing to buy BMW trucks, if the cars aren’t made. If there are no real BMW performance/sporty sedans around those…
Thanks, I’m well aware of Land Rover’s pricing (I have a 2019 Range Rover HSE). Once you cross the $100k mark, the pool of customers is a lot smaller. My point is that people looking at a $90k+ SUV are going to be really annoyed there’s a much cheaper version which looks identical to the naked eye. People buying a…
