No, but Sesame Street was originally designed to mimic the life of the poor, urban child that it was trying to reach. The characters and the program are moving up in the world, but that necessarily means leaving the original audience behind. Like the one guy who gets a great job and moves out of the old neighborhood,

In reality, the type of blinkered Christian that objects to fantasy as a corrupting influence tends to object to The Chronicles of Narnia just the same, because they don’t actually bother to read or educate themselves about books before they turn their knee-jerk reaction into a crusade.

Well they got pretty dark at times. There was a LOT of death for movies aimed partly at children; justifiably so, given the source material.

This. I’m perfectly okay with intelligible Batvoice. I’m sort of curious how he’s doing it, though, since it’s got a definite synthetic quality to it (like a Transformer almost) and he’s not talking through a speaker.

But at the same time they work as “midwives” in the hope to one day correct whatever “defect” is not permitting their ascension, so they are actually fighting for a chance to be more than what they are and join the Overmind while still caring for the growth of other species.

Enh. The following orders thign with the Nazis is people choosing duty over morality. The the Overlords, there is no meaningful “proper” moral choice they can alternatively make, because they’re not causing the changes in the children. That’s happening no matter what.

Did you even watch the show?
The Overlords are genuinely sorry for the poor, underevolved homosaps who get left behind, but it’s their job, man. They were here to keep us from killing the babies before they were ready to leave. The Overlords did not “pluck” the transhuman children ... they just kept the parents calm

20 years after the destruction we saw in ID4, we’d still be sorting out the rubble. The largest 100+ cities in the world destroyed? That means every major world capital (and national government) is gone. Almost every major seaport is wiped out. The majority of the best universities and research centers are gone.

We’re boned.

They really help my thinks though!

no, because they’ll turn it into a detective procedural like they did with Hellblazer

Darin Morgan is a genius. He really kind of pioneered that whole technique of taking a dramatic series (a TV show with a serious tone) and tilting the axis to the comedic without violating the integrity of the world. And he used it to make such amazing observations, both about the human condition and the fictional

I’m going to disagree with you a bit.

On the contrary, making them a nonplatonic couple was lazy, normative, and stupid. It made one of television’s most interesting relationships significantly more banal and less interesting.

Not a liar, not ashamed - and Mulder is a dick.

No, you’re not. I didn’t want them to be a couple. I’d like to see more series where you can have a deep, platonic friendship between a man and a woman. I do not like ‘shipping’, neither the word nor the concept.

Ran out of fuel, will be stuck here ‘til we sell off enough of these infernal wobbly headed dolls to break atmo.

I thought the movie ending worked for the movie and the book ending worked for the book. The more ambiguous book ending might have been tough to shoot.

The Mist was great, and I love that Darabont came up with the twist ending that was so good, Stephen King said he wished he'd thought of it when he wrote the book.
