He's a thoroughly unoriginal player. Not bad overall, he has his moments, but his imitations are so obvious.

What's great about that first one is how it's technically a solo, but it's just a brilliant melody. The first note, that soaring third, sets the tone beautifully.
O'Reilly knows what he's saying is bizarre and insane. He's just looking at his bank account and figuring "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Even after getting fired, he knows that his method works. He's the biggest asshole in the world, but he knows how to get in the spotlight and make money.
Fuck yes.
Deftones have always been unfairly lumped in with some awful bands in some vague sub genre or another. Their music is much more nuanced and interesting than that other shit.
WOW I did not know that. Multiple layers of sadness there.
I didn't know he was in Soundgarden.
Rough stuff for you, sorry. These things really do affect us in personal ways that are sometimes hard to express; you articulated it well, thanks.
Damn right he did songs for soundtracks - his solo track "Seasons" for the movie Singles is great and I say that as someone who really didn't like his post-Soudgarden solo stuff.
It wasn't an obituary.
Agreed - if anything is better, that's fine, but damn do I want to read it (again, possibly).
Agreed on the weirdness. Their compositions, for better or worse, were weird even after they got away from odd time signatures. Matt Cameron was great at holding it all together.
Yeah, sad context aside, that's a pretty great song.
Hard to pick just one but thinking today about his insane vocal power I gotta at least mention "Birth Ritual".
I used to play that song nice and loud first thing in the morning on the Fourth. Will have to renew the tradition this year.
Fuck yeah he rattles the rafters on that one.
What? No. Chamberlin played on Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie. Butch Vig didn't even produce Mellon Collie.
Ditto
That was when he revealed his past heroin addiction, right? That was really something.
Hey man, don't judge!
