From the article it seems like they were doing really well in 2023 but grossly miscalculated the market trends in 2024, leading to increased inventory, reduced profit margin, etc.

They just love doing one dumb thing to shoot themselves in the foot. And taking away AA and carplayer was a double barrel shot. 

Not even a back door.  You have ot pay for their cell plan to use any of it, you have to pay for onstar to use apps past the first 1 or 3 years, and eventually you have to pay for onstar to even use google maps.  

1. I don’t pay more for AC. I have to pay to use the google system in GM cars.

THIS is the primary reason why GM made this decision. And to not have to pay Google/Apple.

So even if you have an EV this works with you probably pau a couple of hundred bucks for it, several hundred to the dealer to get it installed, and get to drive hundreds or thousands of miles to the one installer in the country. Yeah, that makes sense. /s

When using CarPlay or Android Auto the data capture happens on the cellular device, and can be monetized by that company (Apple/Google). GM spent more money on developing their own system…
