I have a little inverter generator. It runs on propane most of the time. There’s a huge difference between the smell running on propane compared to running on gas. A little hint on which one smells less: it ain’t gas.
Using a leaf blower on a small lawn is lazy. That is indeed my point. And it pollutes at a tune that is beyond acceptable. A two-stroke leaf blower generates 23 times the CO and nearly 300 times more NMHC than a Ford Raptor. To equal the hydrocarbon emissions of about a half-hour of yard work with an Echo two-stroke…
I hate camping in camp sites, predominantly because of generator noise. And the vast, vast, vast majority of them are not diesel. And all of them run longer than an hour. In fact most of them run from 4pm or so right up until quiet hours, then from 7 or 8 am until they leave. It’s incessant. These vary, but most are…
Or hear me out on this one, RV manufactures have the engine / chassis OEMs spec an additional large capacity alternator. Why carry around and additional generator, often with a separate fuel tank, when the primary motor can serve double duty.
I am part of a college team that’s made a battery electric kart - its definitely heavier, but we can put out more power than a Tag 125, and if you get your weight distribution right it handles right as well. It’s a one off kart, but the components aren’t more than 10k.
That’s exciting because I’ve been looking for a diesel generator. Honda used to have one of those 5kw Diesel Generators. Super nice. They never incorporated inverter technology into those though, but that makes sense since there’s a very specific operating range for efficiency in diesel power generation. That’s why…
As one who just did a big family Out West camping trailer trip this summer: RV’s are the only socially-distant travel method left. I’m not a fan of emptying the black tank, but it meant we didn’t have to use rest area bathrooms, or deal with random hotels.
These campers are predominantly using between 2000 and 3500w gas generators. The noisy little gasoline powered ones. All. Day. Long. The issue is really that the campgrounds should (and are finally starting to) ban their use. But they really should ban obnoxious cars and motorcycles too.
I think a trailer with solar integrated into the roof and modern lithium-based batteries integrated into the floor would do the trick for most people. And maybe have a small wind turbine as an option:
The average 35' 5th wheel owner runs the generator for 12hr every day - the entire period they're allowed to run them at the campground. At least that's my experience. The typical smaller travel trailer owner has already switched to battery and solar.
This isn’t about just generators though, that’s where you are lost. It’s about all small gas engines like those for leaf blowers, mowers, and generators. It’s also about specific generators. It’s not boneheaded because you don’t understand.
I don’t want the size or weight of a conventional 25+ HP lawnmower, so bring on the turbosuperchargers. Might as well have 4WD and will require launch control to keep from leaving burnout marks in the lawn.
And then your shitty e46 got swept away in a flood, because melting the planet has consequences.
looking into it a little further: renogy already makes suitable house batteries that weigh 1/3 what comparable lead/acid batteries do. the Onan generators used in RVs are relatively heavy so between eliminating the Gen and replacing the Lead/Acid house batteries, you could get 6x the capacity (typical house capacity…
Onan already makes small Diesel generators that fit in the same packaging as their Gasoline/LPG offerings. I’d be willing to bet that the RV industry will just stop equipping fifth wheels with Propane systems. Replace the 30# tanks with a 30 gallon Diesel tank and switch the water heater to electric and LPG furnace…
This is only a ban on the sale of new gas engines within the state. Those of you who absolutely must run your AC, microwave, 65" TV, etc, while (allegedly) boondocking can continue to do so with your existing generators. Used generators will continue to be available, and nothing prevents you from picking up a new one…
I’m okay with this, I actually hate generators while camping.
She eats clay because she thinks it’s a good idea and also thought it was a good idea to say that she eats clay out loud to other human beings.
