I don’t feel strongly about this issue and I see valid points on both sides, but I wanted to point out that a sombrero is a cultural symbol, a cowboy hat isn’t. Blue jeans, sun glasses, and deodorant aren’t cultural symbols either.

This is exactly right. It’s the whole, “he seems like the kind of guy I’d want to grab a beer with” mentality. You don’t WANT the president to be a regular joe, you want someone who knows what they’re doing and understands the complexity and intricacies of the job. It’s infuriating.
