Eccelston was cool enough to let the BBC use his likeness for the very end of the War Doctor's regeneration and the ending scene with all the Doctors. Eccelston was as great Doctor but he hated working for the BBC.

That wasn't in the 20th Century though. And I'd argue that the cop who tried to kill his first wife, killed his second wife and made it look like she drowned in the bathtub and then likely killed his 21 year old girlfriend and stuffed her body into a blue barrel is the crime of the 21st century.
