Anyone here an H.P. Lovecraft fan? I know a lot of the mythos has been mentioned, but straight off the cuff, Rust feels like a typical Lovecraftian character. A man that has been exposed to the underbelly of dark nether regions and has become a man possessed, trying to fully understand them.
"Rust is not guilty." Agreed, concerning the main crimes. What about the blond hooker at the truck stop? The moment is so fleeting and is never mentioned again (so far), but Rust approaches her like he's going to do something very bad. I haven't heard anyone mention this, but it has stuck in my mind.
I don't think he's the murderer either, BUT is he capable of it, or has he done it? Remember when he is scoring the quaaludes from the prostitute and turns down her sexual advances, THEN ominously approaches her saying he can do anything to her with impunity? Then the scene cuts. Still no mention or flashback of…
