Have you played DayZ: Origins?

At this point I would say yes, wait. The alpha will more than likely be out this year (although from my understanding it will be quite rough compared to the mod). Of course, it'll be a somewhat new experience from DayZ as it is now, but I would recommend you just wait for the standalone instead of waste your money on…

I believe that on their site they mention their want to add in player-built housing. Been a while since I've checked, but that is something that I too would like to see in this game. (Of course, keep in mind that it's still just alpha).
