You know someone is a bad-ass gangster when they have girls like that bringing them sandwiches.

Completely forgot about that.  Good call.

@avclub-a4588b2238c4244567744117f04422c4:disqus I should have phrased that better.  I get his immediate motivation to preserve his people, but I have no idea why he is the sort of man who can do that.  We know he is ruthless and very cunning, but what else?  Other characters get to be something other than bosses, but

And some incomprehensible editting choices.

I agree.  The Watchmen was sort of incomprehensible had you not read the book before seeing the movie.  It isn't just that the movie leaves out some of the stranger, non-narrative segments, but that the film doesn't handle exposition nearly as well.  I left the movie thinking it had been pretty great until I realized

In no particular order:
 Battle Royale
American Splender
Moby Dick

The 'faithful' screen adaptation of the Shining starred Bryan Weber of Wings fame.  Stephen King is a weird dude.

Considering they have mentioned that the thing can jam more than once, my bet is that it will somehow figure into Quarles killing his captors and escaping.  It would be better that it turns out to be misdirection than clumsy foreshadowing.

I loved Boyd trying to get a description out of the woman and she just kept describing him in terms of dogs.

Remove Quarles from his presence and Wynn stops sitting in fear and starts plotting on his own.

Good point.  The fact that he was dispatched on his own to take over the Harlan trade could be read either way; maybe he was the competent guy who bosses in Detroit, making the same mistake in underestimating the locals, thought could do it on his own.  Or, he was reckless and incompetent and sending him alone was

He is actually a pretty interesting power broker.  He winds up being a neutral figure simply because he can't really afford to be aggressive for fear of the white criminals simply teaming up against him.  He made his play against what he assumed was the weakest outside power (the Bennets without Mags), which does set

I am kind of over Limehouse-instills-fear-by-cutting-meat-or-holding-knives scenes.  It was necessary for that line from Quarles here, but it has been overused up to the point of appearing cheap at this point.

Tim even got to be sort of a bad ass.  His sniper skills haven't made an appearance this season, but there is always room for that in the finale.

As plot developments go, I am surprised at how much I am enjoying seeing Quarles written as an incompetent villain.  His flashy entrance to Harlan aside, he doesn't have a head for strategy to match his violent side.  I generally prefer villains to be somewhat of a threat, but Quarles only gets to be a true threat

I should clarify that I found it silly when I watched it two years ago.  When I first saw it when I was fifteen, I was scared by it too.

Is being an abomination so compelling you don't fall asleep better?  I know am nitpicking the semantics of what you said, but now I honestly can't say what I think.

All day I have been thinking, 'man, Jurassic Park was such an awesome movie.  I wish the world acknowledged that more, particularly in music reviews."  Thank you, @avclub-454a7bfd685393329597fdb7a92b7969:disqus

I agree with all of this and, unfortunately, your quasi-dirty old man assessment of Chloe Moretz.  That said, the attached names are making it sound better.  Like "Let Me In" and "Funny Games," this remake seems unnecessary but still has the potential to be good.  If studios have to do unnecessary remakes, let them at
