Answer: Mark Hamill.
I was actually just thinking about posting something along these lines.
Leto is a fine actor, but you are overstating the actor’s impact on this. The Director is the one ultimately responsible for the choices that will make this Joker good or bad.
“You don’t see a difference between leaving a dead fish, and leaving a bullet?”
I was just coming down here to post this. If I ever had any lingering doubts about Viola Davis as Waller (note: I really didn’t, I just felt a certain disappointment that it wasn’t CCH Pounder), then they are gone now.
Like I’ve said before, Leto’s antics show that he doesn’t actually understand the character.
I think we’re really just hearing the bad stories. I’ve met plenty of method actors (okay, like 3) who are mindful of their process. And there are several method actors who manage themselves accordingly and we don’t hear any negative crap about them.
I’m not an expert and some other people have already explained it better than I could ever do, but this image might help:
Lol it’s totally not, for most of us, although I do rp with people I think are actors. Fantastic actors, which is kind of interesting, because they don’t act. one of the best is in training to be a truck driver and this is how he blows off steam.
At this point I’m thinking Viola Davis might be the bigger badass. She had to tone it down to play Waller. ;)
Precisely. Articulated far better than I could have or had time for.
You know what really gives it away? None of this is funny. Granted the Joker shouldn’t truly be funny when he’s doing terrible things, but these aren’t even jokes. They’re just weird things he did.
A) Thank you for asking and not being an asshole about it.
You sound like one of the people who- despite all evidence to the contrary insulted everyone who thought that BvS looked like utter garbage.
It's not acting, but we've been having this exact problem with a dude in my LARP group.
So we have a Lex Luthor who is more like The Joker, a Joker who is more like. . . . fuck, I don’t know. Who is scattershot insane? A evil The Tick?
Exactly. The normal person version of the method is just spending a little free time as the character and getting the mannerisms and attitudes down. Nothing crazy. Not bothering anyone. If you’ve got to go as far as leto, you should be staying in your trailer to avoid annoying people.
The most lauded Joker of all time left Joker Fish on people door stops - I don’t see why his antics are any different.
Holy shit, yes. So many terrible humans get away with a lot because they claim to be “method” acting in service of creating the most authentic performance possible. Look up Darrel Cox at Profiles Theater in Chicago for a glaring example of this. I’ve stage managed so many plays with entitled, dipshit actors (almost…
