Yeah, I remember those days.  I saw this rapidly disappear when police departments very publicly started announcing that they had better things to do with their time than go after gas thieves.  I guess those quotas that are illegal and don’t exist were more important than law enforcement.

I just got back from Banff, Alberta Canada.  Canadian gas stations have a weird habit of locking your chip card in the machine while it does its authorization - none of this “swipe in and out quickly” that we do in the US.  So of course, the machine locked my card and the screen did nothing, and I had to go in to talk

It’s frustrating how few attendants know how to enter the number of gallons instead of a price.  Look, I know my tank can hold no more than 13 gallons, so put that in there.  I tell them they can just put gallons, but they say they can’t, when truthfully, they just don’t know how.  Gas pump computers have been able to

I haven’t had to go in to pay in many years. I find that if one card reader isn’t working, the one on the next pump generally is.

I like how American gas pumps insist on asking for a zip code, just to annoy anyone from another country.

I have nothing to contribute to the gas station part of your anecdote, but wanted you to know that I actually knew where Skagway was because I played a shareware version of The Yukon Trail on my grandpa’s computer back in gradeschool. I feel this was important to share.

Lol that’s where you’re wrong.  If a gas station pump says “card reader broken” or some shit like that, I go to another pump or find another gas station.

I vividly remember the first time my old man encountered a pay first policy at a gas pump. I wish I had a smart phone to record but this was way back in the mid-90's.

1) Pull up to the pump

in my experience the card reader doesn’t work 1% of the time.

You don't have to guess how much your gas's will cost the transaction will end when the gas stops pumping and you will only be charged for what you pumped.

No reason this article needs to be longer than one sentence: they are too expensive.

at some point maybe corporate America will realize selling $35-55k cars is difficult if there is no middle class

If the business isn’t sustainable on a fair wage maybe it doesn’t deserve to exist; according to uber it was never meant to be a primary source of income. Now management might have to manage?! gasp!

Your spine?  It is, unless you are a member of the GOP House or Senate.

People want replay because they can’t live with the perceived unfairness of their team doing everything right (or at least doing enough right to win), and having success taken from them arbitrarily from a third-party. And yet, many of these same people will vote for Republicans.

“Well, that’s one more miserable son of a bitch that I’ve managed to outlive.”

Hopefully his brother will take solace in the fact that the free market demanded David’s death.

Last time I was in Vegas, the road was indeed covered in leaves.
But all the leaves had pictures of naked women on them. It was absolutely as weird as it sounds.

I’m glad they did the experiment. Yes, it didn’t work, but that’s why it was an experiment. Some limitations were known - efficiency, sub-optimal sunlight, etc. Many of the variables were unknown - resin durability, tire noise, etc. The test was conducted, results derived. This is a win IMO.
