Thank god it’s just a false alarm. THis is from the Guardian’s live blog:

Let’s hope it’s just a moment of panic from an understandably spooked crowd, and nothing more sinister than that.

Do you ever just read stuff like this and think “we as a species really deserve to be hit by a meteor”?

Yeah, I have to agree with BlueJeans down thread. I think the backlash will be against Rousey. Folks LOVE when a hero falls. Too bad, as these are two unbelievable athletes, neither of which deserve anything other than our respect.

Also hoping the media backlash against Holm—who had been predicted to go down hard—is nonexistent.

Take a look at her belly button and you’ll notice how shopped it is.

So she loses one match, and suddenly it’s the end of the world and her deal with EA is in jepardy?

It was a tragic death of at the hands of terrorists in Beirut, too. And if you can’t see THAT, then there’s something wrong with you.

I keep getting this! I do not see where I was attempting to minimise anyone’s feelings!

Did you miss the part in which I called Paris a horrible, unspeakable tragedy? Apparently. Please point out where I said “we should not discuss”. It is not there. We should discuss and often and reasonably.

fuck you

Or the Lebanese killed in Beirut? And the Turks in Ankara? And the Iraqis in our drone strikes? And the Afghans under our bombs?

Will you also please write about the three Americans who were killed in Beirut?

What makes this doubly disturbing is an apocalyptic showdown in the Middle East is exactly what ISIS wants. Ugh.

The entire world is looking to the White House.

A true measured response that avoided what could have been more fatalities.

That’s top notch crowd logistics right there. Multiple incidents outside with possibly more developing. The safest place those people could have been was inside that stadium. If you let them all out, not only could it lead to panic and stampedes, but possibly a coordinated attack is awaiting them outside.

And give first responders time to provide additional security, if they were available....

I think it was a fantastic job by the responsible people to prevent mass panic. They had no idea what was waiting outside until the police secured the area, and they had to get a huge amount of people out of the stadium without causing any panic. To wait until the game was over and then to open up the gates to the
