Retro concepts are always cool.
Retro concepts are always cool.
Okay. Misunderstanding. My fault. I was more generally referring to autonomy in all vehicles, which would drastically reduce lives lost.
That doesn’t sound very fun...and rather dangerous.
Is there a third choice?
So I guess what I’m getting from that is that autonomous tech will still need human supervision and occasional intervention for years to come? That makes sense, seeing as humans are much better at disaster avoidance than robots.
So damn cool reading this old story. I am inspired.
Good point...i hadn’t thought of that. Let’s settle on 250,000, which sounds like a nice number for all the countries with real echoes of safety standards. Still, that’s a lot of lives to be saved, even if we narrow it down further to 200k or even 175k. And at some point autonomy will reach most places so that number…
Yikes. Autonomy sounds like a mess. It’ll be worth it once you guys figure it out though...so we can avoid accidents like this one.
Are you fucking shitting me?! Do you even know how many fucking people died on the roads last year? Take a guess. Hint: Not “a couple hundred.”
+1
I see what you did there
Of course. You bring up an excellent point. That’s how Joshua Brown died: he put too much faith in the computers on his cars. You’re completely right; computers do screw up occasionally.
Exactly. And that’s just more lives lost that could have been saved by autonomous tech. And more lawsuits for the trucking company.
Well, temporary death. Death is permanent death.
There are enough gas stations around. That’ll be a promotion anyway...
This is why you get a manual. Dogs can’t operate clutches, and even if the could they couldn’t get it into first or at the very least second.
Why is that a website...
Well, yes, the magnitude is different, but you have to know that injuries and fatalities will always take precedence over jobs. Keeping people safe and healthy is more important than keeping them in a truck. This is especially true when in a case like this, the truck driver’s life is not the only one at stake; the…
People go to great length to shave a few pounds. Look at Porsche; in their classic racers the keys had holes drilled in them to reduce weight! I’ve heard of people going under their cars and shaving every nut and bolt to save two pounds.
Good point.
