+1. The driver’s seat in the new XC90 is a dream.

Sooouuuund

Well, at least it was a good engine! Based on this comment thread if I could have one vehicle for the apocalypse I would definitely look for an 850...

I see. I just wonder why transverse...yeah FWD would’ve been hard with a longitudinal I5, but that’s what RWD is for amirite?!

Yeah, supercharging would be badass. And kudos to Jaguar for actually sticking with them. You’re right, we need to Save The Superchargers!

Twincharging, baby!

Ah. I didn’t know that. Thanks!

Oh.

That’s mighty impressive. This engine is rock-solid. Ha, an people think their Toyota Tacomas are reliable. *snort*

(I’m looking for technical reasons)

“Being different” sounds very Swedish indeed.

Well, y’know, it works, so I suppose yes, rock on!

Okay. Yes. Sure. But...*facepalm* not the point...

Is that normal for fours? I thought that was usually for threes...but what do I know...

Oh I see. :P

Fair point. But surely the vibrations of the odd number of cylinders – which is why three-pots need counterbalancing shafts, to my knowledge – would sorta cancel that out, or else mitigate that sort of advantage?

Well, more cylinders, but it’s unbalanced (odd number of cylinders), takes up more room and weight and does not provide a huge advantage over a regular four-pot in any way. Plus, extra nose weight is never ideal.

Geo Prizm, because you don’t have to give a shit about it. Oh, there’s a pole? Let’s have some fun and try to run it over. Can’t do that in an E63, can you.

those who swear you can’t tell the difference between models

I appreciate the 850 having this feature, but...who the hell decided that a transverse inline-5 was somehow better than a four-pot?
