British viewer here who's already watched it all. Your concerns over a lot of the court scenes are valid, there was a litany of opinion pieces all over the shop about the accuracy of the legal proceedings, and if memory serves correct, you'll have to suspend your disbelief a bit more for the next couple of eps.
Without wanting to get too spoilery, I'd recommend watching the episodes after this one with a large pinch of salt as narratively it's a bit up and down.
