To add, I think Ferrell is a good actor in both comedies and dramas, but you can tell that a lot of his movies were the studio having a weak script and saying "If we throw Will Ferrell at this, it'll be gold!" He and Adam McKay get each other and their movies together are often his funniest. Stuff like Semi-Pro and

Obligatory Jean-Ralphio "This is the WOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRSSSTTT!"

Will this be better or worse than the inevitable autotune of whatever he says during the debate?

Though not exactly 1950's Cold War paranoia, a great companion piece to this one is The Spook Who Sat By The Door, which came out in the 70's and replaces commies and the FBI with black militants and the CIA. You'll never guess which one was largely suppressed and unavailable on home video until the early 2000's!

Did you ever see Super?

Side note: if you were curious about reading Slimed! the oral history of Nickelodeon that came out a couple years back, don't. It's disorganized, there's no particularly juicy anecdotes, and they spend an inordinate amount of time on the shows they could get interviews for (I think half the book is about Hey Dude and

It's being subjected to the standard post-BP win backlash. It was the first BP winner since 2007 that I was comfortable putting in my top 3 of the year, if not the number 1 slot, so I'm glad to see it defended.

David Bordwell, who I would certainly trust on such matters, counted sixteen shots in the movie, which would put the average shot length at 7-8 minutes (which was about the length of the shots in Rope, funnily enough).

I love Hannibal and this is a good pilot, but I can't imagine this premise being worth watching for more than a couple episodes.

It's possible, but probably not. Like Office Space, the other cult classic from around that time, the movie has maintained popularity sans backlash because its cult doesn't really have the level of insane fringe obsession a lot of cult movies have, and it's regarded as a good movie on its own merits. Compare those two

Speaking of bands that had a fairly brief shining moment, I rewatched The Wedding Singer the other day and was reminded that I actually like the Presidents of the United States of America's cover of this song slightly more than the original.

I have a weird like/dislike dichotomy with Hedberg.

I'm disappointed the reviews for this have been meh - it's a great story and the talent behind it couldn't be better, and yet it looks like the hottest hot-button movie of 1994.

Xanadu is my family's favorite bad movie. No wonder I turned out to be a homo.

In addition to what you said, I'm looking at her IMDB and from the movies of hers that I've seen, I can't say that I liked all of them, but I didn't finish any of them and think, "well, that was a complete waste of time."

Even the Gaga superfans, of which I am one, are all "uhhhh, that's cool, but….. what? Maybe wait until her next album comes out next year?"

The best part about this scene is the end. Michelle Pfeiffer is dancing off into the quad, and Michael and the other dude have a conversation about who cares as the song still plays softly in the background, which means that Michelle Pfeiffer was still dancing and singing for nobody as she shimmied into the distance.

Something that's both pretty cool and a sign of times-a-changin' is that one of the local arthouses here in Kansas City shows it twice the Saturday before Halloween: an all-ages show at 8pm and an 18+ show at midnight. I've never attended the 8pm, but can only imagine.

TRAILERS THAT ARE THE WHOLE MOVIE IN TWO MINUTES FROM THIS YEAR ALONE:
