Thats not how the controller works. One guy has the DPAD which is for movement, and the L button, the other has the buttons to shoot and menu and the R button.

I use that cable for my Gamecube ._. The original model wii uses the same cable as the Gamecube.

While new would be really hard to come by, they’re all pretty common in the used department, and super cheap. I’d look for a privately owned second hand game shop near you.
