The police have a long legacy of using violence to enforce racism. In the Jim Crow era, it was common for higher ups in the police department to be active in the KKK. Nothing has changed since Jim Crow ostensibly ended. The police still arrest black people for drugs up to 11 times more often than they arrest white

I bet he could run for congress in a conservative district and win too.

A white man being criticized is the worst oppression on earth. Didn't you know that?

My cat knocked some things off the shelf

I hate it when bullets become sentient and try to frame innocent white cops for murder.

They're the same people who insist that of course they'd just go to the cops right away if they were raped.

So shocking that racism would be accompanied by misogyny and ableism isn't it?

My grandmother is pretty devout and conservative but luckily she's Catholic and not evangelical. Catholics like to get their drink on!

You'll have use baby's pressing on your bladder excuse to make frequent trips to the bathroom to hide. Stow a book or a kindle in your purse.

Sometimes my racist right wing Christian fundy uncle can't go to holiday get togethers because he has to work. I'm really hoping he won't be at thanksgiving. Just last month he was talking about how the left has unfairly maligned George Zimmerman. Sigh.

No but that doesn't change the fact that pushing a store clerk is not an offense worthy of death. It's not relevant. If he had murdered the clerk, you might have a point.

The issue isn't hearts and minds. The issue is that there's a disconnect between what the people want and what the government does. Legislators know that the path of least resistance is too what their wealthy individual and big corporate donors want them to do. Because even though we have the numbers, we don't use

No. Funnily enough, the store didn't call the police. They called my parents. That's white privilege for you.

I read it for the first time on a family road trip to visit my grandparents. In Las Vegas. It was perfect.

I think The Stand is one of the most adaptable King books. It's basically an epic fantasy in a contemporary setting rather than the usual medievalish setting. With a big studio budget and the right casting it'll be a sure winner IMO.

Completely agree. With commercials, the series had an 8 hour air time but the running time was less than that. 8-10 hours is the perfect length of time to cover everything important without running too long. The Stand is about the same length as an ASOIAF book and a season of Game of Thrones has a run time of 9-10

Teenagers shoplift. I shoplifted as a teen but I'm white so the one time I was caught, it was assumed I was a good kid who made a mistake. But when a black teen does it, he deserves the death penalty apparently.

It's a common tactic for right wingers to sock as women or POC on social media because they think "SJWs" won't call someone out for saying stupid shit unless they're a white cishet man. It's no surprise that they project and assume others are doing the same.

There's been a trend on the left of being too gentle to commit any kind of civil disobedience. Although I can see the value of peaceful protesting, civil disobedience is an important tool as well. Our reluctance to embrace it has only helped the right's narrative that any property damage that occurs in protests

I'm actually torn on what I think about the property destruction. On the one hand, it makes the peaceful protestors look bad and it's not the local small business owners that are the problem.
