OMG yes!
OMG yes!
When asked for comment, the BDU (British Dementor’s Union) spokesghoul had this to say:
I don’t think you understand how irony works. You can’t just make false statements in response to nothing and have it make sense.
Its arrogant to call my simple statement arrogant. Trump was already President. Millions more voted for him in 2020 than in 2016. Biden has been a much better President than I, a real, live Bernie/Squad supporter could ever hope for. Those policies will continue and he can be pushed more to the left in a second Biden…
Sad, but true. Having discussions with my kids about how voting as a minority or marginalized group in this country is all an exercise in harm reduction.
I’ve spent most of my life voting against a candidate instead of for one. This will be another one of those times.
Because we’re still not psychologically, emotionally, or (it turns out) institutionally equipped to imagine a true existential threat to democracy and the rule of law--particularly when one party (arguably both parties) and the media are colluding to frame this election as business-as-usual.
I live right next door to a country that’s desperate to turn itself into Nazi Germany. Grumpy doesn’t even begin to describe it.
TDS last night just reaffirmed what I felt when they announced Stewart was returning: he’s from a time that no longer exists (and the show is far from relevant and vital). They regularly get like 20 comments on a post on Twitter these days so it’s not really must-consume media anymore.
How the fuck anyone is still undecided at this point, I’ll never understand.
The fact that our news media is treating the worst American to ever draw breath as a legitimate political person and not an existential threat to representative democracy and personal freedoms and the right to privacy and basic bodily autonomy and post-WW2 global stability is driving me fucking insane.
But what I’m saying is that that’s why it’s hard for people to see that the choice is between Trump and ever having another meaningful election. His campaigns and his administration were enabled and supported by the system and norms that failed us, and in four years, Biden and the Democrats have failed to fix any of…
You’re right that Biden’s biggest selling point is “the alternative to absolute fucking armageddon” and... that’s not much.
Holy shit, that was some of the dumbest political analysis I’ve ever read, and I read the NYT.
“Why is this so fucking hard for too many people to see?”
It’s a symptom of much peace and too much prosperity for too long. Americans think nothing can really go TOO wrong, because it never has in our lifetimes and we’re always on top and we always win.
On the bright side between deregulations and declining intelligence I firmly believe Darwinism will solve at least a portion of this problem. Unfortunately it means those of us without the means to move to a better country are likely about to enter a hellscape.
Yup.
But that the Dems looked around and said “yup, this is the best we have to offer” is atrocious.
Look at the end of the day you have the VERY VERY real possibility that a facist, sexist, and racist leads the country and opens the floodgates for laws that will take away people’s rights, punish women and make it harder for anyone without a billion dollar bank roll or dark skin to have any real life.
YES I have…
There’s a strong scent of nihilism in the current air. Also, people aren’t offered solutions to the many looming and ongoing crises (or rather ones where they don’t have to move out of their comfort zone), so a win for them becomes less about improving the future and more about making it worse for the people they hate.
