Sad, but true. Having discussions with my kids about how voting as a minority or marginalized group in this country is all an exercise in harm reduction.
I’ve spent most of my life voting against a candidate instead of for one. This will be another one of those times.

TDS last night just reaffirmed what I felt when they announced Stewart was returning: he’s from a time that no longer exists (and the show is far from relevant and vital).  They regularly get like 20 comments on a post on Twitter these days so it’s not really must-consume media anymore.

It’s a symptom of much peace and too much prosperity for too long. Americans think nothing can really go TOO wrong, because it never has in our lifetimes and we’re always on top and we always win.

Look at the end of the day you have the VERY VERY real possibility that a facist, sexist, and racist leads the country and opens the floodgates for laws that will take away people’s rights, punish women and make it harder for anyone without a billion dollar bank roll or dark skin to have any real life.

There’s a strong scent of nihilism in the current air. Also, people aren’t offered solutions to the many looming and ongoing crises (or rather ones where they don’t have to move out of their comfort zone), so a win for them becomes less about improving the future and more about making it worse for the people they hate.
