Considering there are other YA books on the list, I don’t think it’s fair to call it snooty - it seems like it’s specifically about Dessen’s works, which come across to me in the same vein as Lurlene McDaniels, where sure, they’re a fine read, but if you try to study them with any depth, you find that there isn’t much

As a queer person who is femme-coded in presentation, I have less a problem with Chasing Amy itself and more with how Smith’s fans embraced Holden. I IDed as gay when I got together with my ex, because as a confused kid growing up in Ohio, I didn’t know there was any fluidity in sexuality. He loved quoting Holden’s

From my understanding, he tweeted it after Spicy was already eliminated. Clearly he only remembered him when it wandered past his TL, and he didn’t bother to read beyond the name and DWTS.

The second paragraph is boggling. It’s much more appropriate to question why the film makers decided to change his look to begin with.

I loved that Bob was wearing them in the end titles. It was a great way to gently subvert the “men can’t shop for themselves” joke, because those were the ones he was leaning toward in the first place.

I’m very worried for your digestive system if you make motorcycle sounds when you poop.

I do this, but often for... like, dangerous situations? Again, I never get far enough to the ‘climax’ of it (that is, the dangerous thing itself) but relish the lead up. Or sometimes I’ll skip to the fallout after.

I do this in shops! Smaller shops especially. I worked in a pet shop for a while and my least favourite part was always tidying the store at the end of the day.

When I was 16, I made the foolish decision to stay with my 20-something boyfriend overnight (which, surprise, eventually turned into an abusive relationship that lasted until I was 21, but that’s another story) and lied to my parents about where I was. They inevitably found out, and part of the fallout was my mum

The “indefinite grounding” really bugs me and speaks to a crucial misunderstanding of the Addams Family. One of the core parts of them is that they support each other no matter what - their gothness is never something they’re required to adhere to.

Yeah, Davies’ habit of leaning into “love is the answer!” is tiring, as is the way everything was handwaved.

I’ll take the bait here.

I think it was always intended that way. Piper was the Trojan Horse to get the show greenlit in the first place.

The only thing I didn’t love about it was the final episode. The last half ended up rushed and clumsy, and I hate that it pointed at “shadowy figures” controlling Rook, as if someone couldn’t be completely fucking vile for their own agenda.

I think the reason I’ve always been OK with the relationship at the end is because it doesn’t end with a proclamation or a kiss, which would give a sense of all being forgiven and forgotten, and it follows both I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face and Without You. Those songs set both characters up to have a much clearer

I had a serious depressive episode last year that, honestly, started in the last half of 2017 and got far worse before I actually sought help. The most frustrating part afterwards was trying to get people to understand that recovery isn’t an overnight thing. I broke, and all the way through to early this year, I was

I long for the alternative reality where Tom Cruise wasn’t pushed hard into the #nohomo career, because he was so, so good as Lestat and clearly having the time of his life.

I desperately need to watch Miss Pettigrew again. Amy Adams, Frances McDormand, Shirley Henderson... it’s a fucking delight.

BBC already had a perfectly serviceable Boy George biopic, Worried About the Boy, nine years ago, starring Douglas Booth as George.

If you think the Queen uses the NHS, that’s... cute. While I will always sing the praises of a country that has nationalised healthcare versus the hellscape that is the US, it’s still often preferable to use private healthcare, especially for specialised services.
