Pretty much the best summary I've seen on this issue.

True on the responsibility count. But it didn't stop a guy, who by all accounts was a pretty highly functioning individual, from killing himself.

And how many pre orders did they receive, site unseen?

It matters what non-owners think when they’re trying to get them to place a pre-order on a model 3.

You’re the one person, ever, that read the manual.

So basically, anybody that owns one knows, but everyone else is allowed to believe it’s autonomous. It's clever mass market manipulation.

No, Tesla is very careful to say that it’s semi-autonomous and letting people draw conclusions from that. It should really be called an advanced driver aid.

Cool article, but wow....its hard to figure out where to start about how much this doesn’t matter (kind of like this comment).

And how is it marketed in every other medium other than the drivers manual?

They don’t dispute the claim when it’s put forth, and they certainly don’t mind if people get the impression that they are so far ahead of the market that their cars can even drive themselves.

Show me a time before this incident where they have gone out of their way to voice that it isn’t fully autonomous. A lie of omission is still a lie.

Agree. An underdeveloped system that’s being marketed inappropriately as already fully autonomous.

TLDR

You’re clearly looking for a bit of a ribbing, otherwise you would have kept it to yourself.

Really? You can’t walk in front? My fat ass must be smaller than I thought, because I could definitely walk in front of those cars. I think they walked all around the cars when they filmed it for top gear too.

Looks pretty ok to me. It's obviously a garage. If you build it much bigger, it starts being cavernous, like a museum, and that's just douchey. (Because having 10 ferraris isn't douchey or anything)

“If it does turn out that a Model S Autopilot system cannot detect obstacles above the sightlines of the radar unit, then that needs to be made absolutely clear.”

Ha! Maybe.

I have no data to support, but maybe this deflects the wheel away from Senna’s head, or prevents other drivers like Moore, Wheldon, Binachi, and De Villotta having their head be first point of contact. Don't know, but surely better than nothing.

Obit says he was a demolitons tech that worked with SEALs. Regardless, these guys don’t suffer fools.
