It’s similar to abstinence. If you pretend that sex and guns don’t exist, then when kids discover them, they have no idea what to do safely.

I just took the Massachusetts safety course so I could get a license. The course was awful. I don’t feel any more knowledgeable or safer about owning a gun than I did before I took it. The instructor spent the majority of the time talking about his own guns and how to use the myriad loopholes in Mass regs.

Nothing would prevent it, but you could pass laws to heavily dissuade gun ownership, and expecially poor gun safety.
