This perplexes me as well. Considering both my android and iphone using friends never talk/argue about screen size in relation to one-handed use (it's always in relation to how it feels in the hand not how well the holding hand's thumb can access the screen), and considering I've hardly -if ever- seen it after reading…

Really? There may be a lot of android phones that compete on the iPhone level (price and spec), but there are also a lot that are cheaper and simpler...
