It puzzles me why they can't let scenes breathe, as you say, and just pace the three-dozen arcs slightly differently and end up with 11, 12, or 13 episodes instead of 10. I guess because cast and crew are paid per episode. But it doesn't seem to me so impossible that the show should increase the number of episodes.

Ka is "the double," although looking at A.J. hearing the words as "the devil" is kind of natural. I guess the line about the Ka typically reaching adolescence at the time of bodily death makes you think about what that means for Tony if A.J. is symbolic of the Ka in some way.
