The article says it’s 7" shorter in length and 3" shorter in height, along with the significant weight savings. My guess is the suspension and braking have been optimized for the reduced size and weight is more of a towing restriction that the chassis construction itself.

Agreed that it on the low side. Our pathfinder, with the worst transmission known to man, is capable of towing 5k.

I agree. The current Acadia tows 5200lbs. With a reduction of curb weight and longer chassis it should be able to tow closer to 6k lbs not less.
