Every article this writer churns out is essentially culture war nonsense that generate clicks and engagement. And to her credit, it works. Buy the game, or don’t. Both are fine, just shut the fuck up about it already.

“A good faith discussion”? Seriously? You’ve been trashing this game to hell for 18 fucking months. Let’s not even get into the unbelievably naïve calls to divest profits from the game from the actual IP holder. A game that Rowling’s assistant’s assistant probably deals with. A game that Rowling probably can’t

I’m all for standing up for Transgender rights, but if you are going to harass and bully people so aggressively, by even going as far as creating a website to tell you whether a streamer has played said video game, you aren’t exactly creating a healthy narrative.

“The item’s description references the Fettmilch Uprising, renaming it to the Goblin Rebellion. It wasn’t accidental.”

Yeah, and by that same logic playing a video is not the worst someone can do. Scale matters. Intent matters. Lumping people together into a bin with transphobes and Nazis is throwing the baby out with the bathwater in this case. It is counterproductive and damages the very cause the community and its allies are

I’m conflicted about this. On one hand, I’d love to not give Rowling any more money. On the other hand, the developers of the game obviously don’t share her views, and hurting them to spite her doesn’t seem like the right way to go. I wish there was a way to support the devs and indulge my nostalgia without any cash

This item in the game does not resemble a shofar (other than the fact both are horns, which is hardly somehow unique to Judaism) nor does it reference any sort of anti semitic violence.

*sigh* posting this is a mistake, because everyone on Kotaku is biased... Case in point the attitude of this opinion piece in the first place but.... What did all of you legitimately expect?

I think picking battles is important. I have seen people intentionally posting spoilers and calling people Nazis just for liking the game.

Boycotting or not boycotting something should be a personal choice. Anyone who harassess anyone about doing/not doing it is a jerk.

I have no particular beef with trans people or their supporters, but you’re condemning the bad behaviour of one side whilst refusing to do so for the other; threats and abuse levelled at streamers to the point of making some of them cry, randomly going into threads to give spoilers, etc. It’s utterly pathetic.

I guess

I don’t condone any messaging that directs anger or hatred toward anyone. It’s not useful. In fact, it’s actively harmful to the mental health issues that only serve to inflame these issues further. The anti-trans language being alluded to here is absolutely ridiculous culture-war propaganda that has no place in a

Yeah it’s a bummer for sure, the story isn’t anything special but still, it just released, emotions and passions are high, but spoiling the game doesn’t help or aid anybody.

I see what you’re doing, but all you’re accomplishing is the very thing I’ve called out in my original comment and in other replies below. You’re twisting the issue to make me sound insensitive to the plight of the Trans community when that’s not it at all.

Incorrect, I’m upset at the fact that the people screaming the loudest and threatening people for even considering playing the game are not doing anything productive to further their cause and instead making themselves look worse and in-turn bringing harm to the cause.

They never just say “eh, not for me”, when it comes to the MCU. It’s always couched in gate-keeping snobbery and insults to the viewers that like it.

Arachnophobia.

I sincerely hope it wasn't a spider  :/

Because a lot of authors don’t need to put spoilers in their article when talking about the themes of the movie. And putting a spoiler alert on your article takes hardly any time and shows actual respect for your readers instead of your snide comment.

Why not a police sim? It’s a game and games should allow one to take up the mantle of someone else and walk in their shoes, be it a person of another gender, profession, country or a dragon, a spirit or a cloud.
