An ex-GF of mine had one of these in the late 2000's and I climbed in feeling just as you did: excited to finally get to drive one! I too was instantly appalled at the sea of cheap plastic.

I’ve heard that rental cars in Hawaii are notoriously infested with roaches. It’s always something I fear as I throw my suitcase into the trunk.
Sigh. I get an pretty much agree with all of this and yet I pay for an office and STILL work from home 95% of the time. I’m just more productive here.
a small edit needed: Florida is the Sunshine State, Cali is the Golden State. Nice piece overall, though.
I’m in the middle of month 2 of my own social media habit break and it’s going well. My lone secret was deleting my FB and Twitter apps from my phone. I’m far less likely to check in on them on my desktop and I’ve been far better for it, too.
I was thinking Faraway Future, but yeah
I was in Tempe this past weekend and saw one (also say a Waymo car driving around). Anyway - no one was in the backseat, but there was someone in the driver’s seat.
I was in an aisle seat on an evening domestic flight (so think dark cabin) and opened my 15" laptop to catch up on some saved movies. The first one was Little Children, which I had NO IDEA opened with a graphic sex scene of one Kate Winslet on her knees. I looked back down the aidle to find 2 kids, 1 in each aisle…
It turns out you were right - as of today this is exactly what happened!
I made the trek to attend Obama’s 2009 swearing in. It was FREEZING cold that day but the crowd was in such warm spirits. And there were SO. MANY. PEOPLE. It was hard to walk through the crowd and shoulder to shoulder for hours. (Which helped a little with the cold). But everyone was so loving and happy. You could…
When I read the title I thought they were racing down in Rocky Point, Mexico:
I remember the Echo because I once had a 3-some in it while driving. Actually, it was better than a 3-some, as I was 69'ing a girl in the driver’s seat while the other girl steered (though I could see through my partner’s legs.). It was when we had to drive slowly through an active construction zone that proved a…
Who the F is Don Hall and what the F is VADA? (I know I know - see above - but that’s the first I ever heard of either). Don’t mistake a contrarian viewpoint with towing another company’s line. Put down the Tesla Kool Aid and see what is - not for the sake of keeping things the way they are but for the sake of your…
I think it’s important to note that Tesla is NOT in this fight to increase competition for dealers. I’m not defending dealers, either, as their whole business model needs a shake up. But no one should think of Tesla as some sort of hero in the fight to modernize car sales on behalf of the customer. Tesla is building a…
I test drove the BMW i8 earlier this year and it was driving in a pecan shell with a couple of cracks in it. The salesperson told me that I’d learn to trust all the sensors and radar baked in it, but it was still unnerving and one of the reasons I didn’t buy it.
From experience with my 2010 Mini Cooper S, if your car says Premium, use Premium.
I shop at Costco about weekly, on average, and I’m always always in and out in 30 minutes or less (with an average $300 spend so I’m not just buying a hot chicken and gallon of mayo).
I still use this old classic Sam Malone line from the show “Cheers”:
I’d have to agree with Kiki here. I spent 3 years wandering around the planet, hitchhiking, backpacking, working at sea, etc. I’d never set foot on a cruise then. Pfft! Was my attitude at the whole idea of a cruise ship. “How many people do those things hold!? Who the ‘ef’ wants to be a part of that mass of humanity?”…
The 890 is great, too - pretty similar to the 880. Both have batteries that last forever.
