Dude must have stock in OceanGate.
Dude must have stock in OceanGate.
I find the whole thing very interesting.
::As an engineer:: Yet everyone complains on why vehicles cost as much as they do - safety items are usually the most expensive to design and implement.
And yet, you clicked, and then clicked again to comment. Jalopnik thanks you for your support.
Cell phones .. prior to 2010 cell phones did not have large touch screens demanding our attention.
Smart Phones.
Look at that, this is what happens when you *don’t* cheap out on the submarine. You don’t get crushed like an empty beercan.
Not to wish ill on those on board, but I think I would prefer a catastrophic failure to put a quick end to me rather than sitting in the dark for 4-5 days waiting to suffocate.
The front viewport was also only rated to 1000 meters. Windows are already a major weak point on a submarine, but using one only rated for a quarter of your planned operating depth is just plain suicidal.
At least his arrogance took himself out with it, usually it is just the collateral damage and the asshole walks. This is why you never believe your own Randian bullshit.
I mean, this is exactly the sort of thing I’d expect a guy named Stockton Rush would say.
It immediately made the ID.4 a non-buy for us. The capacitive slide for volume was stupid. Just give me a damn knob.
“ I mean if you just want to be safe, don’t get out of bed. Don’t get in your car. Don’t do anything.”
I always expect the rich to not care about the safety of lower-class customers. But I am genuinely a bit surprised that it seems even if your customers are in the 0.1% of wealth, you will still take shortcuts on safety.
VW touch pad apologists be like:
“Yeah, no shit.”
“no carbon fiber sub had ever gone that deep before.”
Totally fair, but Logitech does make a unit with a cable
Doesn’t matter whether it’s a nuclear attack sub or a DSV like this. The consequences for a catastrophic failure in directional control in a submarine or submersible are equally bad. Namely - almost certain death.
Uh... they use a xbox controller on hundred million dollar military subs. Cause it’s easy to use...
