It definitely isn’t cheap. There was a Rich Rebuilds video where he had to take most of the front-end apart just to replace a turbo oil screen somewhere in the engine. This is a part that needs to be changed periodically and is apparently a major design flaw with the 4.0 engine.

PHEV is the way to go.  Last year I bought a BMW X5 45e (PHEV) and it was a game-changer. With the federal EV tax credit, it was about the same price ($65K) as the 40i model and I am able to drive mostly on electric around town. I usually go about 700-1000 miles between fill ups.  

It’s pretty funny seeing someone complain about the gear shifter “trend” on a 2023 BMW when the company has had the same shifting mechanism on all of their new models since roughly 2007.
