Well Rich came to Jezebel from Gawker when it was shuttered, so that’s part of the disconnect—his snark worked better there, especially when he had Caity to play off of.

I think in the 90s she may have fallen into Brit Pop, somewhat. But I don’t really remember her as mainstream Pop, to her credit.

That would have been the last time she had something of a crossover hit; great thematic albums, though, and since. I’m not sure what Rich’s angle with this has been. He doesn’t seem to have cared for anything she’s released in the last decade so I’m not sure why he keeps writing, unless he had to write something today…
