I think that just the fact that you can resell them for monetary value should be a huge exclamation mark for lawmakers. It's basically a highly volatile stock market that children can partake in.

They know the NFTs are useless if the URL goes down too, they’re just not putting that in so that the rubes that don’t know the scam that NFTs are will fork over the money.

I wonder how long it will take for governments to take a look at NFTs and say “this doesn’t seem right”, but considering how long it’s taken for lootboxes to get any attention whatsoever from them, I’m sure most of the damage will be done by the time they do.

This exact same problem exists if the URL that your glorified JSON file is associated with gets broken lmao. NFTs (and cryptocurrency in general) are a gigantic environmentally destructive scam being perpetuated by people who fundamentally do not understand the technology that they are peddling.
