Oh yeah, in 1993 (ish) my local mall had a kiosk that only sold shareware disks for, from what I recall, about $5 to $10 a pop. I’m pretty sure they were repackaging demos or straight up pirated copies.

Can attest to this. I made it FAR into odyssey (100 hours or more), but never finished it. Probably due to that I’m only sitting at about 15 to 20 hours in valhalla.

As you can in almost every game under scrutiny for loot boxes. It just takes a MUCH longer time than someone shelling out dough for premium currency. Very few games don't at least have a trickle of "freemium" currency.
