I’m from Louisiana and I’d prefer the flag be retired to the dustbin of history. BUT, I get it when folks in the south say it’s part of their history. From childhood you’re taught to respect that flag or it is glorified. My old Jr High and High School BOTH has mascots related to the Civil War and the flag was flown…

IndyCar had Paul Tracy in the commentary booth and Santino Ferrucci on the race track on Saturday. There are fewer confederate flags in the infield, but the series hasn’t done anything to silence racists lately. 

Im black and I’ve specifically avoided nascar events because it’s hard to feel welcome there. I don’t think banning the flags will fix racism, but I’m hoping it will keep *enough* assholes away that I might consider actually showing up to a race

Normally youd be right, but remember most confederate statues were erected between 1900 and the 60s in the south. In fact one was erected near a highway in the late 90s. 

Maybe a lot more people. One of the reasons (of many) that I don’t go to the physical races is not having to listen to the racist drunks being stupid. Ok, vertigo, migraines, and scent triggers from rubber and gasoline are in there, too, for reasons. But not being next to those people is definitely in there.
